About the Conference

International Conference on Mechanical Engineering (INCOM) is a series of international conferences organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Jadavpur University. The 1st and 2nd editions in this series were held with overwhelming success in 2018 and 2024, respectively. The 3rd International Conference on Mechanical Engineering (INCOM 2026) is going to be organised from 8 to 10 January 2026 at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Jadavpur University. INCOM 2026 aims to continue the tradition of providing a global platform for researchers, academicians, scientists, practicing engineers and industry professionals to showcase their work, exchange ideas, share research advancements, explore collaboration opportunities and discuss emerging trends related to Mechanical Engineering and its associated interdisciplinary domains. The conference will consist of plenary and keynote lectures from eminent personalities and stalwarts of relevant domains, panel discussions and parallel technical sessions for contributory papers. The conference will be conducted in a hybrid format, accommodating both in-person and virtual (online) presentations. However, physical attendance is highly encouraged, as it offers valuable opportunities to network and engage with participants from diverse research fields.

Jadavpur University and it’s Achievements

Jadavpur University is a State University founded on 24 December 1955 under the Jadavpur University Act. Originating in the anti-colonial National Council of Education, Bengal (1906) the university has consistently set new frontiers in science, technology, humanities and social science innovation and outreach. It has provided research and policy support for state and national governments and international bodies, and conventional and non-conventional technological development for society at large, including both established industries and disadvantaged groups, through innovation and adaptation. Currently, the University has four different faculties – Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Faculty of Interdisciplinary, Law and Management Studies. There are 37 departments and 21 schools for interdisciplinary research associated with the different faculties. Apart from these there are around 50 centers for research in diverse fields.. Few recent achievements of the University are listed below:

  • NIRF Ranking: 9th (University), 2nd (State University), 12th (Engineering Institute) [2024]

  • Re-accredited by NAAC with a CGPA of 3.68 on a four-point scale at A Grade.

  • Jadavpur University students have won National Championship in the 14th National Youth Parliament

  • Competition conducted by Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi

  • Recently celebrated a decade as a SYLFF institution

About The Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, a cornerstone of engineering education, has a rich history rooted in its establishment as an integral part of the National Council of Education (NCE) in 1906. With the foundation of Jadavpur University in 1955, the department became an integral part of the university, carrying forward its mission of nurturing talent and advancing technological innovation.

Early Years and Vision

The department was founded with a visionary aim: “to achieve self-reliance through the empowerment of youth by imparting the best of global knowledge, technical education, and awareness of social, cultural, political, and economic realities of the state, the nation, and the world.” This mission has guided the department since its inception and continues to inspire generations of students and faculty members.

The department initially offered a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering program, and in 1956, it expanded its offerings with the introduction of a Master of Mechanical Engineering program. These programs set the foundation for producing skilled professionals and researchers who have made significant contributions to industrial, research, and academic sectors worldwide.

Expansion and Specializations

The turn of the millennium saw significant milestones for the department:

  • 2000–2004: The department was awarded DST FIST (Phase I), a recognition of its research capabilities and infrastructure.

  • 2004–2008: It achieved UGC SAP (Phase I), enhancing its status as a center of academic excellence.

  • 2005: A Master of Automobile Engineering program was introduced, reflecting the department's commitment to catering to the evolving demands of the industry.

  • 2009–2015: The department achieved UGC SAP (Phase II), consolidating its position as a leader in advanced mechanical engineering research.

  • 2010–2017: The department was recognized with DST FIST (Phase II), further bolstering its research infrastructure.

Academic Programs and Research Focus

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is the largest department within the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) at Jadavpur University. It offers:

  • One undergraduate program: Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (BME).

  • Two postgraduate programs: Master of Mechanical Engineering (MME) and Master of Automobile Engineering (MAutoE).

  • A doctoral program for advanced research.

The department emphasizes five core areas of specialization:

  1. Applied Mechanics

  2. Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulics Engineering

  3. Heat Power

  4. Machine Design

  5. Production Engineering

In addition to its academic programs, the department is actively engaged in research projects of national importance. It collaborates with prestigious organizations such as DRDO, BRNS, DST, IGCAR, ARDB, and NSTL. Its research spans diverse fields, including computational fluid dynamics, material science, tribology, energy, vibration, and thermo-fluid domains.
